Today I came across a Blog that I can respect and fear all at once! I found it thanks to Patheos Featured Blogger, The Crescat.
I realize that the above sentence can be completely misconstrued.
I Love The Crescat’s Blog. She’s witty, knowledgeable and Beautiful to boot 😉
But I don’t fear her Blog (perhaps I should?? heh heh) It makes me think. It makes me laugh. It offers different perspectives…such as today.
I thoroughly enjoyed one of the Blogs she talked about (yes, talked, because I can hear her in my head, among other voices), the other, though I respect their views, I feared is propagating Ignorance and Hatred.
Huge statement, I know!
But this is what I think (thank you Bad Catholic and The Crescat for the Constructive Criticism and Ejumakashun), that one must try to be responsible with this media, with one’s weapon, our keyboard! I said as much as I commented on Mr. Roach’s Blog.
I know I’m guilty of the same thing, I think. I believe any individual who is blogging probably is. We write, or type rather, and release our Golem onto the world and no longer are able to control it. It takes on a life of its own.
But the comment Mr. Roach made caused Tension and Stirring within, and I quote:
[…] The false dilemma ignores that Mexicans in America have higher social problems across the board, as represented by their epicenters in the Rio Grande Valley or East LA.
The link that one is taken to is a report of a Mexican that Brutally Raped and Murdered a 16-yr-old Girl. Believe Me!! I am in NO WAY making light of what this person did!
But to take this report and utilize it as your “Proof” that an entire People has “higher social problems across the board,” I think is Truly Irresponsible and Dangerous!
I did not make that same Generalization in regards to the Many Mexicans that are Killed, Raped and Mutilated at the hands of those Individuals that take it upon themselves to patrol our Borders and perform atrocities to those that have the Misfortune of being caught by them. Among those Mexicans are Men, Women, Boys and Girls…all different ages.
What if Entire Groups still held the Belief that the White Man is the Devil? Would that be accurate? U.S. History shows and demonstrates what he has done under the guise of Christianity…
Which brings me to another Dr. King Quote, also from “Letter from a Birmingham Jail” that I wrote in regards to the same topic of Immigration
I have earnestly opposed violent tension, but there is a type of constructive, nonviolent tension which is necessary for growth. Just as Socrates felt that it was necessary to create a tension in the mind so that individuals could rise from the bondage of myths and half truths to the unfettered realm of creative analysis and objective appraisal, so must we see the need for nonviolent gadflies to create the kind of tension in society that will help men rise from the dark depths of prejudice and racism to the majestic heights of understanding and brotherhood.

I don’t think Mexicans are the devil. I have been to Mexico about four times, have dated at least two Mexican girls in my life, and know a lot about the place. Mexico and many Mexicans have certain distinct virtues that emanate from that culture. I honor the Cristeros for example. And I think that the extended family is an important and underrated social welfare institution.
That said, Hispanics in America commit 3X the crime of native-born whites. They are much poorer on average. They have much higher rates of illegitimacy and lower educational attianment. They do not hold our Anglo-American ideals of liberty in high regard and seem easily misled by socialists, demagogues, and the like. Wherever they go, intergenerational poverty is the norm, particularly if they coalesce in large numbers. I don’t believe I’m exagerrating when I say that we are importing poverty and ignorance and violence in allowing one million nearly illiterate and dirt poor Mexicans into our country every year. This hurts my country and my countrymen, and to be concerned about them is not anything to be ashamed of or to apologize for.

While I obviously do not agree with your Generalizations, I do have a question. What are your sources for these statistics, please?
I am quite curious as to how a reputable organization is able to obtain such figures? What kind of study was conducted and of course for how long?
I mean for a study to demonstrate that an ENTIRE Race of people does not hold a certain Ideal, such as Liberty…which Mexicans have fought for many times over…1810,1910,1926…
I am quite curious.
And I must share with you my knee-jerk reaction to your first paragraph, especially the part where you state that you “have dated at least two Mexican girls.”
It sounds much to similar to those individuals that make Racist Jokes, repeat Racial Slurs, for example of Afro-Americans, and then when they are called on their Obvious Racism and how they hold fast to Stereotypes, they turn around and their defense is…”I have friends that are Black.”
But, this is Just MY Opinion…not a Fact. 😉

It’s obviously harder to look at something like “the beliefs of Mexicans” in a scientific or precise way. But I believe their differeing political system abroad and the different politics of Americans at home–generally more in favor of welfare of one kind or another than America traditionally has supported–are my sources. It’s not a question of “the entire race,” it’s a question of the dominant or guidance impulse, the median view.
Further, the Mexican revolts you speak of were as much class-warfare based, along the lines of the French Revolution, than the American variety. Particularly the 1910 revolution, which has been something of a disaster. My biggest source of information is what I’ve read by Mexican leaders, Mexican-American politicians, and Enrique Krauze’s excellent book, Mexico: Biography of Power.
You can believe what you want about me and my appeals to my direct experience. But I challenge you to refute my argument.

One cannot refute another’s beliefs or opinions.
One can simply have one’s OWN beliefs and opinions and try to sway others towards ours. And quite frankly, I do believe we are both entrenched.
No matter how misinformed one of us – and of course I think it’s you – is 😉
I cannot comment on the book you mention above, by el Sr. Krauze, as I have not read it…and I will be quite honest…given my “List” of books to read, it won’t be anytime soon. I must first wrestle with Summa Theologica 😉
You are accurate in stating the th 1910 war was a class based.
1810, however is an Independence from Europe. Much like 1776.
1926, as you know, was a Freedom and Rights based War. Our Mother Church obtained many Martyrs from that war…in fact, according to Legend, the Earth is Red in Los Altos of Jalisco due to how the blood flowed in its streets…
This has been Fun, Mr. Roach…lol, btw, LOVE the name. Survivor of it all!
