Dam Flies

Today we went on an adventure to Frontenac Provincial Park. It is located on the southern edge of the Canadian Shield.  It has 22 lakes, over 100 km. of hiking trails, fishing, canoeing, you name it! It even has wilderness skills training programs, which we hope to be able to take in the future.

Today we only hiked 2 of the smaller, easier trails. The Arab Lake Gorge Trail and the Doe Lake Loop. We had a blast!

You may be wondering why I am telling you all this? Besides the obvious hoping to pique your interest, well, I just had to share with an exchange between my daughters,#4 aged 6 and #5, aged 5. It had me dying!

We were on the Arab Lake Gorge Trail. We had already completed the Doe Lake Loop, on which we had seen a bit of wildlife, nothing too exotic, frogs, toads, millipedes, crickets, lots of squirrels and chipmunks, and of course the every present bugs.

#4, though very prissy, is also more apt to go after a bug and frogs. #5, though more rough and tumble, well, she is not a fan of bugs, to say the least. So here we are on a bridge with a variety of flying insects, among them dragonflies and damselflies.

#4 has been harassing #5 to catch something, just as she has. #5 is getting rather annoyed.

There is a damselfly on a hand rail and #4 urges #5, “Grab it!”

To which #5 responds,”I don’t like dragonflies!”

“Damselflies,” corrects #4.

“I don’t like dimselflies.”

“Dam,” corrects #4 again.

“I don’t like Damflies!”

I was rolling!
