I skimmed a few of my previous posts…
Disappointing really.
I have been playing it “Safe.”
Well, as I told you a couple of posts ago…I’m Baaaaaack 😉
This Summer has been one of Temptation…
According to Dictionary.com, temptation can be defined as:
1. the act of tempting; enticement or allurement.
2. something that tempts, entices, or allures.
3. the fact or state of being tempted, especially to evil.
4. an instance of this.
With our Glorious Summer, how can one not be tempted to take off of work and Enjoy?
There’s the temptation of being gluttonous in regards to BBQ’s, Sweets (which go against Swimsuit Season), and with so many parties, Alcohol!
Okay maybe that last one is just me 😕
However, there is a different temptation that lurks among us in this Season of Less Clothing and deals especially with numbers 3 and 4.
The Temptation of Someone Other than the one we are with…
Bluntly stated, the Temptation to Cheat, Betray, to Be Unfaithful…to Lust after another…maybe even Love??
Lust. How this one hurts…

All Seven of the Deadly Sins are bad…Dude, they’re DEADLY!!!
But Lust…this one is just rampant as of late.
I know we are Fallen Creatures. I know that we will disappoint others, hurt others, betray them…but to happily, willingly, and knowingly hurt someone…
How can we do this?
Believe me, I get the whole Carpe Diem! I do!
I also get the whole, Life is Short, Enjoy it.
And I know first-hand how quickly one can justify one’s Needs as a “Reason” to betray. Been there, done that. Too many times.
But when we can sit there and say, this is just how we are and it is basically expected that we will Sin…that just feels wrong to me.
Should we not Strive to be Better than what is “expected?”
I will never forget Dr. Richards’ words to the Guys in one of my Lit Classes. We were discussing how in our society we hold to that view of Men Cheat. That it just is.
Dr. Richards looked at the class, purposefully focusing on the males in the room and said to them,
“You should be offended by this!”
She wanted to make us all see that just because society sees something as Normal or as it just IS, does not make it right. That WE are Better than what Society expects. We CAN Be better!
We should see it as a challenge to rise above!
Easier said than done. I know. Believe me, I know…
I agree – because it is the norm does not mean it is right. If we all believed that, then many things would never have changed: the role of women in society, slavery, exploitation of children for labour. If we all unite and take offence, the norm can change.
